Stephanie
Spokesmodel and Advice columnist for BBW Magazine

I always felt like the odd ball, never really felt like I belonged, belonged among my peers and my friends, that is. As I grew older and hopefully wiser, I began to understand that you have to make your own party in life. You can't just sit around and wait for something good to come your way.

Of Course, I'm not implying that I created my own "party", by myself.
It would have never happened without family, friends, and well, former
friends too. Some of you might be asking yourselves "what party?". My
definition would simply be "finding your happiness", if that should mean setting goals for yourself, loving your life, or even it it's loving others solely for their hearts and minds, then so be it.
My path to happiness hasn't always been clear skies with a little wind
to help you sail. However cloudy or depressing some days were, it seemed to clear up, as if it were a new beginning in life. My biggest "new beginning" in life come when I decided to abandon the idea that allowing others to choose my destiny was OK. By not allowing them to decide which road I should and shouldn't take, helped me to learn from my own mistakes.

Not to mention, learning from the mistakes of others.

My point is, going through things that aren't so bright and sunny,
helped me to establish my place in life.
I have found a part of my
happiness in helping others.
The other part of my happiness is modeling. Modeling is my time, my time to enjoy something for myself. It's kind of like when my Mom mows her yard, she says it's her time, no phone ringing, no people talking, no one to ask something of her. She enjoys it for what it is, even though it can be hard work.

The modeling part of my happiness didn't come about as easily as one
always hopes. It has taken me six (6) years to "come this far". My little
journey began when I enrolled in modeling school, yes, let's say it
together "modeling school?". Although it was informative, most of that
knowledge had already been attained, through watching many years of "Style with Elsa Klensch", every Saturday morning on CNN. You can learn a lot from observation. The "school", did not book many jobs for me, in fact, the only ones I worked were promotional, in-store events. Very Cheesy, yes!

In August of '95, I opened a BBW Magazine and found an advertisement for the "Ms Plus USA Pageant." I was immediately thrilled to hear that I was accepted as a contestant. At the pageant, Susan Georget, with Wilhelmina NY, was a judge. After talking to her, with regards to my career, she asked me to call her, upon my return home. Of course, I called her, and she asked me to come to NY. I moved to NY and began my quest, went on some go-sees, tested with some great photographers, had a comp card made, and even had my own portfolio. Timing was off, though, and at that time, it wasn't as easy to get work, as it is now. I decided to return home, and do some local modeling. It was at home that I found work, and was able to learn some important parts of modeling. Things like what you should always have in your shoe bag, how to please the client, and not to mention how to get in and out of a wedding dress in less than a minute, while changing shoes. Some of my clients over the years include Saks Fifth Avenue, Marshall Fields, Champion Athletic Wear, Belk and Dillard's Department Stores.

Time passed so quickly and before I knew it, I was a so called "pro".
I decided to have new pictures made and also had a web site created.
It
was at this then, my dream really came into it's own reality.
I was asked to write a column on a web site, the column was called "Ask the Pro", of course, it was all about curvy modeling. Two months afterwards, I received an e-mail from Betty Johnson, with BBW Magazine, asking me if I would be interested in shooting for the magazine, of course, I was beyond elated!!!!

Not long after that, she called me and said that they were interested in
having me be their spokesmodel and advice columnist.

Right now, I just want to enjoy it and have fun. I am looking forward
to realizing new dreams and possiblities, setting new goals, and acheiving them. I don't know what else God has in-store for me, if it's half as good as what it has been, well I'll just be plum-tickled!!!!
